Duraco Septic Tank System - Your Efficient Wastewater Solution

Our septic tank system is designed to provide a reliable and efficient solution for managing household wastewater. With advanced design and durable materials, it ensures optimal treatment and long-term performance.

Sizing of Septic Tanks:
The size of the septic tank depends on the number of people in the household. On average, each person generates 180 liters of wastewater per day. To ensure efficient treatment, the retention time is set at 48 hours. For example, a family of five will need a 1,800-liter septic tank to manage their waste (5 x 180L x 2).

Wastewater from toilets enters the septic tank through a 110mm diameter pipe connected to a venting pipe. This allows oxygen to enter the system, ensuring effective waste breakdown. Inside the tank, waste is separated into three segments:

  1. Upper Segment (FOGs) - This is where fats, oils, and grease accumulate. Aerobic bacteria degrade these substances over time.
  2. Middle Segment (Aerobic Zone) - Oxygen and bacteria help break down organic matter into water and carbon dioxide.
  3. Lower Segment (Anaerobic Zone) - Sludge forms here, consisting of decomposed organic matter and bacteria. The anaerobic process creates methane, hydrogen sulfide, and water, which exit through the air vent.

Treated water passes through the pre-filter basket and is safely disposed of into an absorption pit.

Installation Process:

  1. Excavation - Dig a hole deep enough to allow for 300mm of fine soil coverage over the tank and allow a 230mm clearance around the tank.
  2. Bedding - Use a 150mm layer of rock sand as a base, ensuring it's leveled before placing the tank.
  3. Backfilling - Fill the tank with water as you backfill in 200mm layers to avoid tank distortion.
  4. Septic Extension - If needed, use a Duraco septic extension for tanks installed deeper than 300mm to bring the lid to ground level.
  5. Leaching Field Setup - Ensure the sewer drain slopes properly to allow smooth flow into the septic system and absorption pit.

Maintenance Guidelines:
To maintain optimal performance, septic tanks should be pumped every five years. If the tank remains unused for long periods, flush the toilets multiple times to restart the aerobic process. Always ensure that the tank is installed in appropriate soil conditions to avoid collapse or leakage.

Advantages of Duraco Septic Tanks:

  • Durability: Built to withstand the test of time, our septic tanks are rust and corrosion-free.
  • Easy Installation: Unlike concrete tanks, no complicated installation process is needed.
  • Eco-Friendly: Excellent chemical resistance ensures that wastewater is treated safely.
  • Warranty: Our septic tanks come with a 3-year warranty for peace of mind.

FAQ:

What base is required to install the tank?

A 150mm rock sand bedding is required. No concrete base is necessary.

Can I install a tank under a driveway?

No, unless protected by a reinforced concrete slab. Installing under a driveway without this protection will void the warranty.

How long does the septic tank last?

With proper maintenance, it can last decades, providing long-term wastewater management.

How often should the septic tank be pumped out?

Every 3 to 5 years, depending on household size.

What’s the difference between aerobic and anaerobic systems?

Aerobic systems use oxygen to break down waste, which is faster and more effective than anaerobic systems. They also produce cleaner effluent water.
